08 Dodge 3500 144″,I wanted to call it “Squeeze Box”,my wife said “Love Shack” 93,000 had 84,000 when bought.repaired normal mechanical things, have changed fuel filter, filters, oil. tighten power steering hose, new turbo intake silenter, intake gasket, added catch can ,only works with micron filter ,was a cleaning van with hot water tank ,has been bed lined on whole interior,as body and paint man for fifty years not happy with rusty spots, had rust on roof rear section, repaired with starboard for extra support and left rear wall ,repaired with panels and stranded filler, all rust neutralized ,some underneath rust that I repaired with rust neutralized and complete re under coating.new exhaust from particulate filter back. Slider,Rear doors replaced. Complete repaint with rust inhibitors.(Mercedes has some of worst paint)
Installed 15 gal grey waste tank on driver side under shower and mounted 15 gal fresh water in spare tire location. For insulation I used 1/2 in. polyisocyanurate
on 1/4 underlay against metal interior structure.I believe putting insulation in and against metal inter structures invites moisture and rust. Boxed in wheel wells with same.Nice and quiet while giving air flow behind insulation(think thermos bottle)Then covered in ship-lap (walls) and cedar planks roof and doors.Floor done with hickory premium vinyl.1/2 in underlay. The upper cabinets made of 3/4 Maple and 1/2 white pine with 1″ Oak doors. Inside you’ll find a 110v 5000watt A/C unit built in pass. wall braced with 1/8″ slotted angle. The whole unit is inside, outside all you see is vent. The routeing of the air intake and output makes it work even in South Carolina on 100 degree days. also put small microwave. The shower/toilet,was built of 3/4 maple ply,a compost toilet made of normal DIY bucket with a urinal diverter and vent kit.surfaced with waterproof tile.Pan 36″x 24″ acrylic.Has shower curtain now,but with pause on shower sprayer works great. My wife has given her stamp of approval after weekend and our week trips ! The pass seat has a swivel .the space behind drivers seat storage for window sun shield and insulated panels for side and rear windows, plus the canopy/tarp.The water system consists of 15 gal.water tank in spare tire location ,12 volt pump with accumulator, and valved for tank or outside hose inlet. Heater is 4 gal. 110v on a switch, which can be run on inverter or shore power . Actually the inverter doesn’t like running it,the heater, unless I switch the, while running down road, smart battery interconnection. So normally don’t try to run on just inverter and house batteries (400 AH Lithium) .But does fine job while traveling. 12 volts as mentioned 400 AH Lithium with battery controllers , on roof 4 100 watt panels,Fantastic fan, Renolgy 30 amp controller, bright sun 20 amps charge here in sunny SC. normal 14.4 volts charging, float at 13.4. Have 3000 watt inverter external controller. Have lived just on house batteries for couple weeks if just use for lights ,tv,charging phones ,inverter for coffee .Did I mention TV 12 volts ,has little antenna that picks up 32 stations at house, 36 with tall TV antenna on house.Worked in our little SC mountains. The A/C will run on inverter for eight hrs on house batteries. There are dual 12v usb outlets under both sides cabinets in front and back .Dimmer on over head and under cabinets lights, just put some flashy LED strips with cool colors and motions. Stereo is a in expensive touch screen with android and iphone mirroring. GPS and BT all the new things hooked up to a Rockville 1600 amp, Alpines in door,RECK overhead and in back bed base 15″ bass with tweeter(use it as back channel may change). The main counter has nice sink and faucet ,Teak top and folding side board and Teak base for Propane cook top . When slider open has drop down table for extra work space.Have larger propane grille/cooktop stored under bed have done steaks out on table. Beds went with singles 75″ long x 25″,still have room between for hauling 4×8’s! On back doors have spare and storage box 48″x14″ (my golf clubs live there along with two folding chairs and poles for canopy). Hitch 2″ this 3500 rated for 7500 tow, maybe Toad or enclosed for bikes!. Now for the engine it’s a 3.0 Diesel ,5speed Trans been gone thru all new solenoids, plate, and connector.New fluid didn’t drain the converter. Works great , new fluid in rear end ,the mechanic in me found a vibration in rear end but I easily fixed with dynamic balance. My best fuel mileage was coming back down from the Smoky mountains going 65 getting 21 MPG, on flat if I keep it under 60 can get 19, 20. My Transit buddies brag about 15! Whew! any questions let me know. working on link for all pictures. Just finished 3700 mi trip to Houston,up to Michigan, back to Myrtle beach, got 18.3 at 65 mph.12 nights, one in campground, two at Hotel,4 at brothers driveway plugged in 110 extension cord, rest boon docking at Cracker Barrels,Walmart,Loves. Slept great had coffee every morning on inverter. All in all great trip.
