Sporty Sprinter: 2012 HR 170″ WB, Professionally Converted with Low Miles CALL 8312166116

American Van Works (I think the oldest upfitter in California) converted the van in 2019 and it had less than 25K miles when I bought it last year –because it was the personal van of one of the owners and was only used for his local beach trips and as a display of AVW’s modular lifestyle conversions.

This Sprinter is VERY modular. After I removed the 3-chair MBZ bench to my garage, I could move the AVW galley in front of the sliding door, without replumbing it–because the hot and cold tubing for the sink is flexible. I only had to screw the galley into the bench hole, and fastened the bracket on the L-track at the the wall. Similarly, the surf rack locks into the L-track above the bed or stores in a custom wall mount –and I always hung my mt bike from a rocky mount on the L-track at the open nook beside the microwave.

Even the three-panel queen bed can be removed without tools and, with the rear doors open 270 degrees, the Dometic DC cooler makes a table centered on the DECKED surface where 6 ppl can sit on the fender storage boxes, like benches, around an impromptu dinette with a view. A Lagun table mounts back there and also on a mount between the swivel seats in front, where I typically dined. When I drove with my wife and son to college on the other side of the country, he was able to comfortably sleep under the queen bed on the DECKED platform below, with generous head clearance.

In the past 16 months I also mountain biked all over California, the PNW as far as Whistler BC, Utah and Arizona–and telecommuted at the beach in Santa Cruz. The van has never broken down and I have relied on it in high mountains and hot deserts. The MBZ repair of their diesel emission was done by AVW just before I brought it (which also updated most of the tubes), and I have only serviced the van at our local Mercedes Repair shop: including the 33K mile service, a replaced windshield wiper, glowplug, and cab battery.
