Diesel
8,700 Miles
Last Modified March 5, 2021

As much as it pains us, we have decided to part ways with our beloved Sprinter. A 2018 cargo van with roughly 9k miles, it’s still practically brand new and we are the only owners. Service A was recently completed by Mercedes, otherwise no other maintenance has been necessary. We sought out to build a 4-season capable rig that can fare well in any conditions whether it’s the Summer in Florida or Winter in the Rockies, equally at home at an RV park, your friends driveway, or the backwoods. The build is solid and simple to ensure minimal maintenance requirements.

The build started by stripping it bare and spraying the rear with a ceramic insulation that will slow the passage of heat from the outside. Noise dampening insulation came next. The walls are insulated with Thinsulate, the floor with multiple layers of closed-cell foam. Walls and ceiling were installed from a kit obtained from RB Components. A shelf has been installed over the seats to add additional storage. All cabinetry was custom built from aluminum tube and powder-coated for aesthetics and durability while also being light-weight. Everything has been installed using rivnuts for easy removal and maintenance.

Heat is provided by a diesel Espar heater under the passenger seat. Additionally, the stove is a diesel powered unit by Webasto. Both pull directly from the fuel tank so there’s no need to worry about running out of propane or adding moisture from burning it in the van.

Cooling is provided by the rooftop Dometic Penguin w/EasyStart installed and/or the MaxxAir Fan mounted towards the front. In temperate weather you can open the sliding door window or just keep the door open and use the RB Components screen to keep out the bugs.

The electrical system was overbuilt to ensure the van won’t run out of power on extended trips away from civilization. With components obtained from and configured by AM Solar, the Lithium battery can be charged via the 260 watts of solar on the roof, the alternator while driving, or via shore power. Capacity can be easily increased with the addition of another battery along with the necessary combiner, but we never needed more than the single batter. You can even jumpstart the van from the house system with the push of a button if for some reason you find yourself out of power, which has come in handy a few times. The electrical system can be monitored and updated using the Lutron mobile app.

The Dometic refrigerator on a slide-out keeps your food and beverages cold. A Lagun table bracket topped with a beautiful live-edge slab adds counter-space when prepping meals and an eating surface once it’s ready Both seats swivel courtesy of Alpine Mechanism seat swivels.

The sink is fed by a 5 gallon fresh water source, and an additional 18 gallons is able to be stored in the included AquaBricks which are stowed in the garage. There’s no bathroom in the van, but a Thetford porta-potti is included.

The main cabin lights are on a dimmer switch and battery-operated (rechargeable) LED lights are included to help dial-in the ambiance. The stock radio has been updated to a Sony unit with Apple CarPlay and XM Radio. All speakers have been replaced and speakers were added in the rear doors. A RAM Mount is included to mount an iPad (iPad not included).

A custom mattress is super-comfortable and will include custom-sheets to fit the dimensions of the mattress. USB chargers allow you easy charging while in bed. RB Components rear door storage bags make the most efficient use of space. Insulated window coverings from Strawfoot Handmade and RB Components help ensure privacy and increase efficiency.

An Aluminess ladder was attached to the Aluminess steps to provide easy access to the roof without having to always stow a ladder. Owlvans storage box is the perfect size for a generator and the spare tire carrier has a full-size spare for the Cooper Discoverer S/T Maxx 285/75R16 tires.

Outside leisure activities are facilitated by the Thule awning attached on the passenger side.

This van is ready to go, apart from a few minor trim items I never got around to doing she’s complete.

Please let me know if you have any questions or want to arrange to see the van. We are located in Jacksonville, Florida. Please don’t inquire about availability, if this ad is still up then the van is still for sale. More pictures available in addition to a detailed list of all components by request.
