This Sprinter van (we call her “Whita Van”) has been the best camping rig we have ever owned. And we have done it all, from tent to motorhome, to a tent trailer, pop-up camper…you name it, we’ve used it. What we really love about this set up is it’s so easy and comfortable from start to finish. When we looked for a camping van, we had to be sure my very short wife (just 5’0″) would be able to drive it comfortably. And she loves to drive it, can reach the pedals easily AND see over the dash!
As far as getting set up when you reach your destination (campsite, or camping off grid or stealth in the city), you pull up to your spot, throw up the magnetic insulated window covers, brush your teeth, pull the porta-potty out of its cubby hole so it’s accessible during the night (a requirement for my wife!) and climb into bed. 5 minutes and you’re on your way to dreamland. And if you arrive in time for some camping fun, you have plenty of room inside if it’s raining (we live in the great Northwet!), room for games, or you can lift the bed and have space under the bed to sit and relax, cook up a gourmet meal or access the massive storage area in the “garage”(my wife can stand straight up under the bed with it lifted to full height).
Our all-time favorite trip in Whita Van was a six-week adventure to Alaska. We took her on the ferry up to Juneau, then drove through Alaska and back home to Washington state. We had our kayaks with us (at that time we were storing them inside and above the bed using the L-track system, but we now have a system for carrying them under the bed). Kayaks are not included, but you do have room for them if so inclined (ours are just under 12′, and although it is a bit cramped when they are inside, once you arrive at your destination you can easily store them outside).
Our last trip was across the US and back across Canada. It was a fantastic trip and the Van did great and we found the van to be very comfortable on the 2 month long trip.
We are extremely sad to be selling her, but our lives have gotten so busy in the last year or so that we feel we need to let her bring joy and fun to some other couple.
