This remarkable rig was engineered from the ground up by industry legends, Field Van. The company, founded in 1989, has been building adventure-ready campers for over 30 years, and their flagship Ford Classic 4×4 is truly a masterpiece. Despite appearances, it’s far from a standard Ford E-350. They begin with a Ford E-350 cut-away chassis and convert it from 2WD to 4WD using a proprietary 4×4 system. From here, they add a custom fiberglass steel cage-reinforced body that is 4 inches wider and 4 inches taller than the original Econoline, yet at a glance looks completely standard. This bespoke habitation box, combined with a pop-top roof, creates a generous interior living space well-appointed for long-term trips or full-time living. The specifications for this build are extraordinary and documented in the Google Doc below. It’s in a different league to the 4WD Sportsmobiles and similar we’re accustomed to seeing, and is better understood as a scaled-down luxury expedition camper. Amenities include a large house battery system, 15 gallons of freshwater with on-demand hot water, 4-season climate control, a bespoke camper interior, considerable interior and exterior storage, and redundancy built into all systems. At $225,000, it’s less than some off-the-shelf Sprinter AWD camper conversions and provides key advantages. The seller provides a full breakdown of costs, indicating that new, this vehicle would set you back $275,000 with an 18-month lead time (not including the $25,000 in post-build upgrades). With just 37,000 miles, this $300,000 build is barely run in and would serve as the perfect international travel companion or rolling home for the upcoming season.
